Editing the next available number can be performed from any computer with access to the setup functions. To edit a specific number file, click on the number range definition and click on the edit button.

From the number file details prompt, the range low, range high, numeric displayed length and the next available number can all be edited. The next available number is the NEXT number to be allocated to any test using this numbering sequence. After making any changes, clicking on OK will save those changes .

The number files used by Empress can be edited using a text editor from within windows. All number files except External Number are kept with the file extension of .num

NOTE: The number file is kept as an external file outside of the Empress database. This has been purposely designed in this manner such that should a database every become totally corrupt and require replacement, the database file(s) can be replaced without any interference of the number file sequences. From a database restore, the operators and test definitions can be restored and normal operation can resume within a short time frame.
