Empress can be customised to operate in a manner that is suitable to each individual installation. The individual settings that can be customised include minimise options, statistics creation and record retention. Each of these points are covered in more detail below
Server Name
The server name is used to set the computer name of the acting Empress server. The Empress server computer must have Empress master running in order for a Empress workstation to connect to the server program. If the Empress server is not operational, Empress will report an error that it was unable to connect to Empress master on the server computer name and close. The server name box will list the computer name of the registered Empress Server.

The Empress server does not need to be the computer from which the files are shared. It can be any computer on the network, although typically the file server is usually the Empress server also.
Minimise
Empress master program is designed to be left running in the Windows background and can be left minimised to either the task bar or the system tray for reduced visibility. To minimise Empress master to the task bar select the option group button Task Bar under the minimise section. When Empress master is minimised, it will appear as a minimised program on your Windows task bar. If preference is for Empress master to be more hidden, selecting System Tray from will place Empress master as a single icon into your system tray. To restore the program from the system tray, either double click the Empress master icon or right click and select restore.
Screen Layout (Colour Selection) Your colour preferences can be set using this option. You can set the colours for the menu text, sub menu text, test button back colour (de-selected cell), selected button/cell (cursor position), selected test colour and the de-selected test colour. The colour preferences selected will be used by all Empress workstations. To reset the colour selection back to default, click on the default button to reset all colours to the program defaults. Keep Records (Days)
Empress stores all the barcode numbers that is creates and all selected tests assigned to each number. This is used when creating the statistics files, estimating label consumption and recalling previously created barcodes. As the number of records or entries in the database grows, performance will slowly decline. To limit the size of the database, Empress can be set to only contain the most recent entries to a set number of days.
Depending upon your installation configuration, you may need to adjust this figure to optimise performance in your situations.
Note: Access Database Driver
If your installation is configured to use the Access database driver, this value should not be set to a too large.
Old episode records are rarely recalled and storing them may degrade performance.
