To create a new test code, click the new test button from the right of the test layout screen. To modify an existing test code, double click the required code from the test layout display.

Enter the

  • Test description you wish to appear for the operator to select
  • Test code to appear on the request form label and the default code to print on the specimen barcode labels
  • Prefix character
  • Suffix character
  • Serial character
  • Specimen label barcode type
  • Specimen label barcode density
  • Primary group number
    To print the specimen code on its own label, set the group number to None.
  • Secondary group number
  • Code order priority of the test.
    To ensure test codes print in a specific order on a barcode an order number can be entered for the test to specify the test code arrangement. If the value is set to a greater value than another test code for the same allocated group, the test code with the greatest order number will be printed last. The valid range for this value is from 0 to 32,000. (It is good practice to increment the test order numbers with a large enough range that any new test added to the system at a later stage can easily be placed within tests orders already entered.)

  • Number of barcodes required for this request code. If a the test has a variable number of specimens, set this value to 0 and Empress will prompt the user for the required number of labels to print each time the test is selected.

  • Number file is the number sequence from which to assign this test. The default numbering sequence used by Empress is Empress.NUM . If you wish this test to use another numbering sequence range, select from the drop down list the number file sequence desired.
